The 2001 season closed last week with Harvest Huckfest and the biggest day on record. Saturday was huge with over 700 downhill enthusiasts and all the Canadian Rock Stars. Everyone showed up featuring jump demos with John Cowan, Richie Schley and Gareth Dyer. Wade Simmons taught himself how to perform no-handers. How about 13 year old Ian Moult jumping with the big boys. It was awesome!

Other festivities included a Ride with the Stars session where mountain bikers got to do laps with Thomas Vanderham, Andrew Shandro, and Dave Watson just to name a few. The whole cartel was out for this one. Other star sightings included Alison Sydor riding the gondola and Andreas Hestler on a RM7.

The Bike Park season kicked off with Joyride Bikercross, an event that blew the minds of the 2000 spectators and the 80 riders that showed up. This race will happen again next year with a new track and 6 riders up. And new trails like A-Line pushed the limits of rider and steed, look forward to more vertical for next year.

Also look forward to a new lift. The Fitsimmons chair will be modified to suit mountain bikes. This will allow Whistler to extend the parks open days during the season and help eliminate the line-ups. Well, that is until another 700 people show up with downhill bikes. It's going to be so cool.

The timing was perfect to shut down the park as snow began to fall in Whistler this week. The mountains are white and we're now waxing our boards and patching the Gore-Tex while looking forward to next summer at the Bike Park. Umm, what kind of bike should I get? (Or how BIG?)

Cheers,
