Filming with Fractured Films
Team nsmb spreads An Epidemic in the Okanagan Brian Hammond
In Mid October the youthful arm of the NSMB freeride team arrived
in Vernon, BC to be filmed in both Kelowna and Vernon for our upcoming release "An
Epidemic." We'll have the team riding
the best lines and documenting it all with our cameras. My other pastime
and my true passion is trail building. My friends and I spend
nearly all our spare time prepping lines for filming, for the local
rippers, and to improve the local trail network.

Brodie Budan's, the other half of the Fractured
Films partnership - gets his juice from filmmaking and directing. Brodie
attended the Toronto Film School and is the artistic and creative director
of Fractured Films. For 2008 we have a few more filming trips planned
for the NSMB riders and we'll be seeing them back in our area in the
summer and filming all over the interior.
There will also be a North Shore component - filming the boys on their home
turf and on some of the gnarliest lines there.

The team rolled in to Vernon
extra late on a Friday night with the team Toyota jammed with bikes and gear.
Inside was Ian Nelson, Mitch Chubey, Curtis Robinson, ans Dylan Dunkerton
- who came along to ride as well as take some snaps for the site. We all
crammed into my 2 bedroom basement suite for the whole
weekend. Saturday morning we got up early and headed up to the Hills
to start jumping. The air was chilly and the riders were
slow getting started but as the day progressed the style and tricks oozed
in steezyness. We ended the day with some bump and berm riding, and a really
high speed wall ride air off move I built up a week prior to the shoot,
which we ended up having to tow the team in with my truck at around 60 kp/h.
Mitch Chubey. Can
with confidence.
Saturday
night the beers were kept to a minimum and everyone was in bed early as we
were all wiped from sessioning like mad men. Sunday morning started early
as well with a healthy and fulfilling Denny's Slam breakfast. Then we rushed
down to Kelowna to meet up with Casey Groves and follow him to the jump spot.
Casey was a little late to the meet point so the team had a good 20 minutes
worth of rabbit hunting in an area of Kelowna that is infested with the little
varmints. Of course we filmed the entire ordeal,
and actually I spent about 10 minutes getting everyone to stop chasing the
rabbits. We then headed up to Casey's spot where everyone
was able to flow some tricks on some really boosty bmx style lip jumps. After
a few hour session with Casey and friends we raced across town to meet up
with Leroy Chase (star of our previous film IN SESSION) where he had a spot
with a jump line he machine sculpted him self with a large excavator. The
line was dialled and the jumps were big poppy floaters. The team was so comfortable
they were tossing tricks they had never tried before. The entire time
at Leroy's spot we were dosed with rain and by 5 pm we shut it down due to
muddy conditions.
Casey Groves methinks.
It
was a very successful weekend for both us and the NSMB team. I was very impressed
with the teams maturity and work ethic for such young guys. They had no complaints
with any of our requests for filming and would hike and session near endlessly
to get the required shots and each line dialled. The team was a class act
from start to finish
and everyone was blown away with their skills on bikes. On top of that
everyone invloved had a great time.

getting towed in.
We can't wait until next film trip with
the team, and we will be working hard all year on our trails and lines for
our next shoot.
