Jordtron Jumpathon 2007
Words and photos Jay Sinclair

With Sea Otter having just gone by, the 2007 season is officially under way. During the course of the year I am lucky enough to travel to a number of events, shoot pictures and hang out with the pros in their element. All that being said the event I enjoy most is probably the one I attended this past weekend. No big trucks, no Tents no XC guys just a ton of riders (Both pro and amateur) and a ton of fun.

Welcome to the second annual Jordatron Jumpathon

With close to 30 riders the talent pool ranged from contenders in the worlds top ten to kids I have been watching in backyards for a couple of seasons. There were notable names like Boyko, Lunn, Claw, Kasprick and Semenuk mixed in with 15 year old Brendan Howie and 13 year old Gunther (a protégé of the Bicycle Rockers, well Ross anyway). The middle of the field was packed with 2nd tier up and comers like the Meyer Brothers (Who killed it and made the finals) as well as Neil Meier, Ian Nelson and Ross Measures. A few guys from Down South made the trip up as well. Andrew Taylor, Kyle Jameson and Guy Marsh all brought their smooth style and tricks (Guy Marsh is a cool guy even if he wears the same pants as my Little sister).

It amazes me how fast the sport progresses. From pros to amateurs most riders were able to tailwhip and or 360. This is a huge step forward from last season for tier two. It looks like the bulk of the young guns have been practicing all winter to up their game.

The weather didn’t exactly cooperate but we did get just enough sun to get the practice round and the finals off before the downpour resumed in Parksville.

The man of the hour and day. The Lunns always put out a great spread and deserve many thanks for letting us hang at their house and the yard.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, here are a few thousand.

Jordie in a contemplative mood.  Or maybe he hit his head.

Ryder Kasprick was killing it as usual, but Monster energy drink should hire someone to tie up his shoes. Note his shoes (or lack thereof) in both frames.

Jordie Lunn was doing the flat spin thing but it didn’t go as planned.  Click image to view uncropped version.

Neil Meier was riding well until his knee blew out. Two knee braces from Kintec should sort him out until Oct.  Click image to view uncropped version.

Andrew Taylor is definitely moving on the to scene. Keep an eye on this kid. Click image to view uncropped version.

Graham Aggassi was one of our choices to compete in the AirPrentice competition and he has stepped his riding up this winter. He brought serious game to the plate.

Ben Boyko is heading off to Europe today for the 6 or so weeks of freeride mayhem going on over there. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing his name in the top three of some events and in contention for the overall. He took the win at the Jordatron JumpJam with fluid tricks like this.  Click to enlarge.

I love shooting. Brandon Semenuk makes it easy. This kid is breaking out this year for sure. He was third overall with stuff like this. Click images to enlarge

Results
1. Ben Boyko
2. Darren Berrecloth
3. Brandon Semenuk
4. Joe Perrizo
5. Ryan Meyer

Other finalists were:
Nick Meyer
Guy Marsh
Jordie Lunn
Ross Measures
Andrew Taylor
Ryder Kasprick
Graham Agassiz

Overall the JumpJam was a huge success and thanks go out to the Lunn family and SRAM (Especially Tyler Morland) for putting a ton of effort into throwing a Jam the riders want to attend and the fan love to see.
