| With close to 30 riders the talent pool ranged
from contenders in the worlds top ten to kids I have been watching in
backyards for a couple of seasons. There were notable names like Boyko,
Lunn, Claw, Kasprick and Semenuk mixed in with 15 year old Brendan Howie
and 13 year old Gunther (a protégé of the Bicycle Rockers,
well Ross anyway). The middle of the field was packed with 2nd tier up
and comers like the Meyer Brothers (Who killed it and made the finals)
as well as Neil Meier, Ian Nelson and Ross Measures. A few guys from Down
South made the trip up as well. Andrew Taylor, Kyle Jameson and Guy Marsh
all brought their smooth style and tricks (Guy Marsh is a cool guy even
if he wears the same pants as my Little sister).
It amazes me how fast the sport progresses. From pros to amateurs most
riders were able to tailwhip and or 360. This is a huge step forward from
last season for tier two. It looks like the bulk of the young guns have
been practicing all winter to up their game.
The weather didn’t exactly cooperate but we did get just enough
sun to get the practice round and the finals off before the downpour resumed
in Parksville.
The man of the hour and day. The Lunns always put out a great spread
and deserve many thanks for letting us hang at their house and the yard.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, here are a few thousand.
