Eye for the Sun Peaks Ride |

Last year I unfortunately missed the trip to Sun Peaks and since then I’ve heard nothing but great things about the trails and the surrounding area. After riding there for 2 days, doing 7 laps each day, and riding as many trails as possible, the tales were confirmed.
| The trails were fast, steep and fun. The variety is incredible; everything from easy greens such as Smooth Smoothie, fast blues such as Gummy Bear, and crazy difficult lines like Insanity One and Smitty’s Steeps. Sugar is a black diamond trail that offers riders a combination of pedaling, single-track and North Shore-like stunts or you can ride Honey Drop, which offers fast, tight single-track and steep sandy sections. But the best of all is Arm Pump, a short trail near the bottom of the mountain which tests your high speed cornering and technical trail riding abilities. Sun Peaks is an area that I would recommend to riders young and old of all riding abilities. As a woman rider I found so much variety in each trail. There are many opportunities to learn new things and take your riding to the next level. And not having the traffic of Whistler gives the mountain a very relaxed, laid back feeling. Michelle, Lisa and Nina joined us this year and they have only been riding for a few months. They enjoyed the trails not only because of the terrain but because they could go off on their own and feel comfortable riding without the guys. They started on easy greens and were riding the most difficult of the blue trails by the end of the weekend. It was incredible to see how much their riding improved in three days and how their confidence level rose thanks to the trials at Sun Peaks. |

| One of the best parts about Sun Peaks is that you can travel as a large groups as we did, but ride in smaller groups, then meet up after at the bar or in the hot tub to talk about your day. Everyone in our group had a great riding weekend and will be raving about the trails up there for weeks to come. Overall the weekend was amazing and I would go back tomorrow if I could. You could easily spend a week riding in the area and never get tired of the trails, especially when the trip ends with a 19KM epic ride (we can’t tell you where!). Thank you to the guys who toured us around on Sunday evening. The ride was one of the best epic downhills I have ever done!!! Getting there. Sun Peaks is about 4.25 hours from Vancouver, 5.5 hours from Seattle, 7.5 hours from Calgary and only 45 minutes from Kamloops. Check out the map here. Check out the Sun Peaks Resort site for all the info you need to plan your trip.

Where to stay - Sun Peaks has some great condos if you are going with a big group. Bear Country Lodging is just now being added to the BroCard. We stayed in an awesome place with a huge garage for bike storage and space for 10 riders to lay down their heads. At CDN$180 (US$115) a night before the BroCard it gets pretty cheap when you pack the house. The Cahilty Lodge is also offering some great BroDeals - with a kitchenette for $75 a night.
