The Goods at Sea Otter – Day One

Photos Morgan Taylor and Matt Dennison

Sea Otter has a richness that only northern California could amass. Yes indeed, people come from all over, and some of them bring really cool stuff. Bikes, not bikes, shouldn’t be bikes, and more bikes.

EnduroSX

Specialized’s team-only Enduro SX. Troy Brosnan will be going for it at the Sea Otter DH on this one.

Headtube

This carbon prototype was ripped from a BC rider’s hands and put on display. Hint hint, Jill Kintner will be racing one in the DH.

Prototype

A size small proto Norco Sight 650B. Time for everyone to start building bikes with XX1 and 650B.

Spank_Spike

Mike Dutton at Spank was showing off a new titanium spindle and aluminum pins for the Spike pedals. Nothing like putting a shiny gold thing where the sun don’t shine.

Diety_Pedals

Deity has produced the thinnest pedals of all time, and adorned them with half inch long spikes. Beware, shins.

Tandem_specialized

Speedy road tandem, coming soon to a snooty coffee shop near you…

Morgan_Coffee

Coffee break! Kitsbow offered up a Verve shot tamped with pink Chris King.

Dirt Tattoo

I spotted this Cat 5 tattoo on the wrong leg and then put two and two together.

Tandem

And a tandem that has no doubt seen a lot more mileage. It takes a special type for a couple to stay together after riding a tandem for as long as these two have. My bet is four corners.

Marzocchi

Marzocchi’s got a new DH fork in the works. The 380 is an air-assisted coil spring, coming in at a very competitive 6 pounds, 2 ounces. Completely redesigned from the bottom up, sharing only 38mm stanchion tubes with its predecessor, the 888.

Nukeproof

Nukeproof is celebrating Sam Hill’s arrival to the team with a line of components. He continues to use an exfoliating saddle.

Sworks

Continue to try to figure out how the Enduro 29er stuffs 155mm of travel up in there…

Matt

Twisting throttle off into the sunset, faster than you.

That’s it for day 1 from Sea Otter. We’ll fire up another couple sets of photos from the dusty plains of Laguna Seca tomorrow.

That Norco looks awesome! PLEASE offer it in a proper XL. And by that I mean a top tube well over 25″ and a longish head tube. The new Norco 650b bikes look awesome. Hopefully they'll make one for taller riders soon!

That Enduro SX looks super badass, though looks more like a DJ frame. What is that, 12″ ST?

"aluminum pins for the Spike pedals"
Any reason other than weight? Steel pins wear and shear off fast enough as it is, aluminum pins must have a life measured in hours.
