Stubs!!!
This past weekend the 21st and 22nd of October I realized I had to go back to the Sunshine Coast!(ssc)I woke up early saturday morning to ride my bike over to the ferry and catch the 9am ferry over to SSC. I met up with Jay Sinclair, Doug Mcmillan and Taylor P. And of course our host as usual..THE DYLAN DUNKERTON(aka stubs). Dylan and his parents are awesome people, super welcoming, shuttle us up the mountain and are amazing cooks! I was super stoked to get riding on the mountain with these guys, especially since both Jay and Doug had never ridden the ssc loam before.
We went over to Dylan's house for a bit, then went right up the mountain to a trail with lots of cutties. mmm cutties. (a cutty is a cornering technique where you do not use your brakes, but spray dirt like you were Curtis Robinson. In the dictionary beside the word cutty, there is a pic of Curtis from the ssc). We shredded through that trail, with a bit of up hill, which warmed us up. Next run we figured we could take the guys down some of ssc's version of north shore ladders. Which ment really nice landings, smooth run ins, everything was butterrrrr. Next trail we hit of that run was called DNA. It has some cool tables/gaps on it, which are quick and smooth. Sinclair loved them! After that, we needed some LUNCH. Dylan is one lucky dood, he can ride trails all the way to his driveway, with very little uphill. uuhhh I want to live on ssc.

STUBS
We ate some of ssc's finest cooking from Dylan's mom Joanne, then looked at some of Dylan's amazing photos and peeped some of his vid coming out soon, called
Undisclosed-A Stubs Production, I am super stoked too see this video when it comes out, I watched one section of a certain someone, and it was sooo sweet! Really made me want to go huck myself off some stuff, and go fast. haha. After a bit we went back up the mountain, this time with Jay and Doug's cameras to shoot some stunts on the mountain. We sessioned one step-up to step-down which was pretty imtimidating, and I attempted to trick it...but that was scary. Dylan had some SICK tables and x ups off of it, and I did some awesome dead-sailors. After a bit, Dylan exploded his pedal, and after trying to bang it back with a rock we realized that was it for that stunt. We realized time really flies on the ssc, because its always fun. Jay and Doug needed to cath the 6:20 ferry and it was already 4:30ish and we were still at the top of the mountain! So we ripped down the mountain as quick as we could, so we could have a bit of jump sessioning time left. Turned out we didn't have enough time, so we ripped Dylan's jumps to jump TRAIL. Yes that is the next cool thing everyone, dont have a burm at the end of your dj set, build a trail with the same designed jumps all the way down..so fun.
Overrall that was a pretty sweet day, lots of flow and fun with good people. Hopefully I'll be back more than 324950932450 times by next year!
Here are the pictorials that Jay took, and some of the footage that doug shot with his handycam. And for all you bulletin board readers from last year, yes on the horizon that is fog in the pics of Dylan.

me
The pictorials are by Jay Sinclair, and the vid by Doug Mcmillan. Thanks for coming out and bicycling and shooting guys! And I'm sorry for the poor internet quality of Doug's vid, but I uploaded it in a terrible fashion.

Last weekend saw the running of the
6th Annual GK Ripper up here in Squamish. Instead of the usual tag team up down bike race on Diamond Head something different was in the works. The usual players were in attendance but the 2006 GK took the form of a golf tourney at the
Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club.
The man behind the GK Foundation is the Squamish bred Al Ross.

As the owner of the
Tantalus Bike Shop he is already a big part of the cycling scene but his unselfish involvement in events like this make him a true pillar of the community. Al spearheaded the first GK in May of 2000 only 3 months after his good friend Graham Kuebris fell on Pink Starfish. Funds were going to be needed to help pay for GK's medical bills along with a fancy chair and special bed for home, both big ticket items. Graham proved the doctors wrong and was walking again within 5 months and still enjoys the 2 wheels.

Krista McBride was a recipient of the foundation's fund's in 2003 to aid her transition from able bodied to wheelchair. She has since become a big part of the event with her tireless resources helping to pull the event together year after year.
Including a release party for the latest NWD installment on Sat night at the House Sound Brew Pub the players came together to raise a total of $9000 for the GK Foundation this year. Truly Awesome!!
Unlike Eamonn's review, I enjoyed the latest NWD vid, what #7, even though I thought it lacked the production quality of some of the competition. 'Flying High Again' was keeping with the theme of the past installments by
Big D and Freeride Entertainment by packing in the max amount of big moves with very little filler. Although a few of the songs reminded me of my youth I have grown to enjoy more downtempo beats.
I personaly could watch a full vid of nothing but Berrecloth, Simmons and McCaul. Darren powers while Wade flows and Cameron seems to slice thru the air with surgical precision. It was also great to see Cowan's still pushing the young guns with his one handed roll. John made it up to Squamish from sunny Cali to play a round in his gum boots.
My team of four included Big Red 'Crusher' Ted, Eric 'Da Ringer' Cseff and Mr. Mike 'Miser' Jones.

For those of you who have ridden with EC you know how he rips! Well he is equally as potent on the links. Although the rest of us all had some great shots that went towards or final 4 under score Eric pretty much carried our team. The trophy included some 20+ bike parts, a 1/2 pack of g.balls and some bed post. No, not new drive trains etc., but one that
Peanut, who has helped make Tantalus what it is, put his great welding skills together to create. The trophy which was even topped with a silver cup out of his mom's prized collection.

And yeah the Dream team won!

EC get's to take the trophy home.
A golf game is not complete without some drinks. We didn't have to stuff or bags with beers as Mike Maloche was strategically placed and knows how to mix a mean Caesar.

Wade and Thomas both had a team entered along with Kona's Dik Cox who has always been a huge supporter.

Look for the GK Ripper to become even bigger in 2007. If you want to take part in a great event for an equaly great cause I suggest you grab your clubs or dust off your grandad's old hickory set and make it up to Squamish next year.

As every year, the Harvest Huckfest is held on Thanksgiving weekend, on the last weekend of the Whistler bikepark being open. To tell you the truth, this was the first one I had attended without an injury! And I had a lot of fun. On the Saturday there was the uphill/downhill relay race which I competed in, with Monroe Duncan, who KILLS IT! Then Sunday there was the Super D race aswell as the slopestyle in whistler's infamous Boneyard. A super D race is essentially a downhill race, but with uphills thrown in, just for "fun". I competed in the slopestyle..but no uphill for me..heheh
Saturday I got up to Whistler bright and early so I could ride as much as possible. I started off the day alone, not knowing if I was going to meet anybody, kind of planning on a morning riding alone. First run I decided to go down A line, whistler's almost signature trail. The 2nd jump goes under the chairlift, and as I popped off of it, someone yelled my name...haha there goes my quiet morning. I met up with Max Zessel a guy who lives close to me, and used to go to my high school. He is now going to school at Uvic...so he hadn't ridden bikes much. I met up with him and Matt Juhasz (a nsmb.com Airprentice competitor) for a run. It was sweet! Matt and his buddy were ripping it, while Max was right on my tail all the way down, throwing down tricks first run after he hadn't ridden a bike in months. I was impressed to say the least. After that, I met up with Monroe "Munny" Duncan my uphill rider to give him his number plate. I have to say Munny is one of the awesomest guys to hang with, super funny and a great guy. And he also rips the uphhills. (I'm looking forward to racing the ripper race with him if Jay Sinclair doesn't call dibs on him.) So for the race, I had to meet munny at the top of the uphill, which wasn't as easy as I thought. I met munny half an hour before the race started, so I could give him his plate and such...then i would have enough time to get to the tag off. Turns out the lift line was REALLLLYYY long, and I was late to get to the tag off! Munny had already arrived when I showed up, so I tagged off and kept on hammering. It was a super fun race, but I felt pretty bad that I wasn't able to make it on time. We ended up with a 3rd place in the Junior/Senior Category which wasn't bad. Sorry Munny for me being so slow!!!
After the race I met up with Ryan Newman and his photographer/rider freind Andreas. We had some lunch at the GLC restaurant, then headed up to the boneyard for practice and fun. That night I met up with Dylan Dunkerton and Ross (Anderson?) to help out put Dylan's new fork on his bike in a hotel room...that was fun, haha
Next day I got up bright and early at 8am to meet Dylan and Ross in the boneyard to practice and ride in the boneyard to practice for the slopestyle that afternoon. It was a super nice day, it had rained the night before so everything was a little tacky. Dylan hit the little table as a warm up a couple of times, then hiked up and SENT IT on the 4 pack jumps, styling up the jumps right away. I still wasn't quite awake yet, so Ross and I took some video/pictures of him for his upcoming movie
Undiclosed-A Stubs production. I am really stoked to see the outcome of this video, it will be up for sale this fall, and I would deffinatly suggest purchasing it. Some gnarly riding has been filmed/thrown down. You will be amazed at what one person can do on a hardtail..We rode boneyard for another while, until Ian "axx" Nelson came and met up to hike boneyard in the crisp light with us. We rode for another bit, then went down to register and do a lap on the chairlift.
Before I knew it, the boneyard was packed full of people spectating and riding. It was weird, leaving the empty boneyard, then 10 minutes later it was full. Soon the comp started and people were throwing down. There was an 11 year old kid hitting the big step down to step-up, it was CRAZY. I think his name was Brin Anderson...leave a message at the bottom of the page if I am wrong please!
Now I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

No hand to tire grab combo?!? haha, I need new tricks

Brandon Semenuk sending his way to 2nd in the adult category

This kid was eleven years old!!

Kyle Mcdonald heel clicking his way to top of the podium in the adult category

Ian "axx" Nelson mid-suicide no handing on his way to 1st in the junior cat.

Andrew Taylor super man the step up california style
And now are some other guys who kill it:

DYLAN!!!!

DYLAN PRACTICING!!! He came a solid 8th, and was one of few to actually spine the spine.
Two Guys I am missing are Eric Lawrenuk and Scott Morgan, I cannot find pics of either guys and they kill it!

Luke fulton is a ripper and a half from victoria. He came to huck in huckfest this year, but on thursday broke his arm landing on his bike funny in the foam pit.

So here's a pic of Luke 3ing at his local jumps to up his awesome factor

Another cool victoria ripper is Andrew "Shrew" Sherry, but sadly he couldn't make it due to he had no bicycle that would work

Everybody watching/waiting to go for their runs.
All of these photos were professionally photographed by THE JAY SINCLAIR, Dylan Dunkerton,Ross Anderson with Dylan's cam, and Liam Stewart. Thanks for the photos dudes!
And here are the results for you all to see...

PS I got the results from darren butler @ www.endlessbiking.com
