The Season of First's...
Posted by Colin on 2006-11-26
There is something about the change of the weather in the fall that I really dig. After the wicked stretch of sunshine we had out here on the west coast I found myself almost itching for leaves to start falling and the innevitable weather change. The first ride crushing the fallen leaves under tire? Everything just smells different. The first time getting caught out at the top of Credit Line sans HID's as the light quickly fades. Wicked fun pinning the trail feeling faster than ever. Great training for the balance. The first rain ride. Heavy rain ride! Sqaumish has had over 800 mm of rain since Nov 1. What is that 4 feet? The first true night ride. The first snow ride. I love it! Today was a hard pedal even in only 3cm. Looking forward to that first steep fall line ride in a foot of the puffy stuff. Not the first time I have not seen a soul during my 3 hr tour. First time my old frosbitten toes have given me grief this year. First time I truly admire the ability of my buddies with kids that still get out often on their bikes. I have my first, Finn. Not the first time Marley has crashed in front of the fire after a ride but the first time he has gotten up from his slumber with a limp and a groan. Maybe the next snow ride will be his first wearing his fancy fleece jacket. This 4 th season is usually the first time all year that I feel like taking a brake from the bike for what 2-3 weeks. 06 will not be the first year I dont park the bike for a breather. I'm hoping 2007 holds a few first's. First time in a few years I will have a dh rig early season. First year in a few that I will be on the same bike as the previous year. Some first place finishes would be nice!Remembrance Day 2006

Remembrance Day this year in the Okanagan was beautiful and a perfect day for riding! Me and Terence from Skyride cycle in Vernon got a little crew together to head out to the Bike Ranch in Kamloops for the day. After getting everyone loaded up and strapped down, we were on the road which is always a good time with the truck and car both loaded. When all was said and done there were about ten foreigners jumping at theAfter some warm up runs down the small set we all migrated over to the larger doubles for a little more fun. Those new doubles are a load of fun. They were so good that day. They were rolling fast and super smooth which made them easy and fun to start tricking right away. After sessioning for a good hour and a half some of us went for a hike up the hill to do a ride down the run they have built there which is also amazing and fun to rip down. We finished the day off with a little game of pig; with no one coming out on top to fast we decided to call it a day. Another day in Kamloops with no injuries meant another awesome day in paradise! No better way to end a day then sliding around on your head. Booh ya, BentonRig's 7

I had my first ride on a Specialized Demo 7 last week. I rode with Mr. Willows in the cold November rain. I started on my Demo 8, it was my first ride on it since I crashed hard in August. It was quite a house of pain chasing lung boy up the Fromme fireroad. His Demo 7 is a couple of pounds lighter than my 8 (41 for him, 43 for me) which is my excuse for riding slower on the uphill - that and the fact that I like to stay away from the smell of Rig's unwashed bike gear. All I blog is SSC
