Ripper #2... Super D!

Posted by Ian on 2007-05-22

The sea bus after a long rideWell to start things off ill talk about my week of hell prior to the ripper. To start the week off my only bike got stolen from my friends backyard while I went out for dinner. This sucked allot because I had just put on a bunch of brand new Syncros parts, Magura brake and my fox 36 fork! So this was enough to ruin my week, but i guess someone decided it wasn't. The morning after my bike got stolen I woke up with a horrible sore throat and after a night of throwing up I went to the doctor to find out that I had strep throat. So I spent about 7 days of lying in bed feeling like crap. During the time I was sick Dan Crowe-Hutchon asked me to do the ripper with his team and I decided it was a good idea. Our original plan was to have a team of 4 but at 10:00 pm the night before the race 2 of the other guys dropped out on us, so it was just Dan and my self. I ended up borrowing a friends bike (thanks Jermey) to do the Ripper seeing as the closest thing to a bike i had was a Kuwahara the the 80's. The race was awesome and was well worth having to get up early in the morning, do the race, then ride to the sea bus, bus to work and work the rest of the day! By 6:00 I wanted to fall asleep at work rather than riding back home. Anyways, enough of my complaining, here are some pictures of the highlights of the event for me. Dan and I shredding some classic shore! Mr. Crist riding the dangerous slopes of Mt. Seymour. Turning a corner in pain after sitting around for a week before a race. Also check out this great vid of the event courtesy of Stubs! Ripper Video Anyways it was an amazing event and thanks to all the people that made it possible. See you at Ripper #3 on CBC!

May Long Weekend

Posted by Daniel on 2007-05-21

This weekend ended up being pretty sweet. I had been looking forward to riding all week, I just couldn't wait for friday. Finally friday came along, so I went dirt jumping at a local set of jumps. There were about 20 people there, it was awesome. Everybody was getting stoked on eachother and learning things from eachother. I learnt some new stuff, and i think the majority of the people there were all stoked on the scene. After riding, trever gatto, Graeme Meiklejohn and I hit up Denny's for some burgers and nachos. That was a good way to start off the long weekend. Saturday I went up to whistler for the day, shredded with my freind Denton, and ended up doing some laps with Jeremy Schaab. Whistler was super fun, Aline was relatively buff for opening day, and same with the other trails. We did tonnes of runs on aline, which I'm pretty much addicted to. It was a super fun day, just a little muddy. No pics, but I'm going up with Brendan Howey, Luke fulton and the ssc lurks next weekend, so i'll have lots of shots for you then! Sunday I wrote an essay for socials...plus it was miserbale weather so that was a write-off. Monday was awesome. I met up with Dan Barham around 10am to shoot some photos at the local jumps. We showed up and the lip on the new trick jump was collapsed from the rain, so we dug for a bit before we did our thang. After a bit Gunth and his buddy showed up with tonnes of candy and chips, i was stoked! We shredded for a while, while Dan shot photos. Soon enough came Ryan Newman, aswell as Jay Sinclair, steve V, Geoff Livingston and a bunch of other dudes. It turned out to be a rad day. We removed the pesky stump in the run out of the trick jump, aswell as buffed the tranny, and rebuilt the lip again. Sadly I had to go home and finish off my essay before ian nelson came, but it sounded like an awesome session after that. Here's one of Dan Barham's shot from today I'll be heading back to that place lots...so expect to see more stills and vid in the following week! Dan

Mount Seymour Super D

Posted by Eamonn on 2007-05-18

This past weekend was the Mount Seymour Super D, the second event in the North Shore Ripper series, and I was stoked to be able to take part in this years affair, as I missed out on last years due to a blown out ankle. For those of you not in the know, the Super D is a team event consisting of 2 or 4 person teams, and keeping your posse tight is essential, as you must finish within 10 seconds of each other. Being my first Super D, I didn

Old Man Miller

Posted by Trevor Hansen on 2007-05-09

A few months ago the great Colin Miller had his 40th. It was on a snowy February day and I couldn't make it. The next time I could get away was Good Friday. I got bad back Cammy mac and old man Miller together for a Sunshine Coast ride. We got to the ferries an hour early but it was full so Cam and I called Colin and he was barely out of his home in Squamish - strange considering how early he normally is. He invited us up for some fresh loam. We found the old man doing his crossword puzzles, sipping prune juice and relaxing in his Depends at the old folks home in Brittania. Old Man Miller postulating After he trimmed his ear hairs we headed out for an epic 4 hour tour of some of Squamish's best 'all mountain rides'. I can't remember the names of most of them - but they all had soft earth, lots of flow, a hell of a lot of good grunting on single track and tonnes of opportunities to chase the old man in high speed downhill runs. He may be old but he still rips harder than ever. Here's some pics of the birthday ride: me on the new loam trail bridge. We were gonna build a booter at the top of this bridge and use the bridge to land the 20 X 20 drop then... Look at all that soft loam. CBC it ain't. Posers Colin Jr. aka Finn just like his dad - trying to take my beer blatant sponsor plug Blatant sponsor plug and a tough guy shot of an even older man

Woodlot Session

Posted by jaydub on 2007-05-08

After having a great time at the Woodlot last week with the Specialized crew (Buck, Chris, Jeff and Brandon), the STS crew ventured back the next weekend for more of the same. This time I wanted to hit up Blood Donors newest stunt.... I'm guessing a 15'x25'. After our group lost Eamonn on the climb (so called flat tire) and going down slippery "Crazy Carpenter", I knew that this manly drop was mine. Send in the probe ! I could tell that with this hit you needed a lot of speed. I figured 6 down and 1 stroke after the hump. After a couple of b*tch runs.... up, up and away ! Well.... I came about 6" short. My mark is on the left. The result... 2nd day on the new wheels, my day was done. I was not happy... but sometimes you gotta roll with the punches. First time for Eamonn at the 'Lot and how he managed to find us is beyond me but he showed up ready to represent. After telling him to pedal at least 2 strokes after the hump, he should be ok. Up up and away ! The E-Dawg stuck it clean ! Nice work ED. For me, it the dreaded "Walk Of Shame" back to the truck. I'll be back and a big shout out to Hank at John Henry Bikes who keeps my rides rolling. JW
