Harvest Huckfest 2006

As every year, the Harvest Huckfest is held on Thanksgiving weekend, on the last weekend of the Whistler bikepark being open. To tell you the truth, this was the first one I had attended without an injury! And I had a lot of fun. On the Saturday there was the uphill/downhill relay race which I competed in, with Monroe Duncan, who KILLS IT! Then Sunday there was the Super D race aswell as the slopestyle in whistler's infamous Boneyard. A super D race is essentially a downhill race, but with uphills thrown in, just for "fun". I competed in the slopestyle..but no uphill for me..heheh

Saturday I got up to Whistler bright and early so I could ride as much as possible. I started off the day alone, not knowing if I was going to meet anybody, kind of planning on a morning riding alone. First run I decided to go down A line, whistler's almost signature trail. The 2nd jump goes under the chairlift, and as I popped off of it, someone yelled my name...haha there goes my quiet morning. I met up with Max Zessel a guy who lives close to me, and used to go to my high school. He is now going to school at Uvic...so he hadn't ridden bikes much. I met up with him and Matt Juhasz (a nsmb.com Airprentice competitor) for a run. It was sweet! Matt and his buddy were ripping it, while Max was right on my tail all the way down, throwing down tricks first run after he hadn't ridden a bike in months. I was impressed to say the least. After that, I met up with Monroe "Munny" Duncan my uphill rider to give him his number plate. I have to say Munny is one of the awesomest guys to hang with, super funny and a great guy. And he also rips the uphhills. (I'm looking forward to racing the ripper race with him if Jay Sinclair doesn't call dibs on him.) So for the race, I had to meet munny at the top of the uphill, which wasn't as easy as I thought. I met munny half an hour before the race started, so I could give him his plate and such...then i would have enough time to get to the tag off. Turns out the lift line was REALLLLYYY long, and I was late to get to the tag off! Munny had already arrived when I showed up, so I tagged off and kept on hammering. It was a super fun race, but I felt pretty bad that I wasn't able to make it on time. We ended up with a 3rd place in the Junior/Senior Category which wasn't bad. Sorry Munny for me being so slow!!!

After the race I met up with Ryan Newman and his photographer/rider freind Andreas. We had some lunch at the GLC restaurant, then headed up to the boneyard for practice and fun. That night I met up with Dylan Dunkerton and Ross (Anderson?) to help out put Dylan's new fork on his bike in a hotel room...that was fun, haha

Next day I got up bright and early at 8am to meet Dylan and Ross in the boneyard to practice and ride in the boneyard to practice for the slopestyle that afternoon. It was a super nice day, it had rained the night before so everything was a little tacky. Dylan hit the little table as a warm up a couple of times, then hiked up and SENT IT on the 4 pack jumps, styling up the jumps right away. I still wasn't quite awake yet, so Ross and I took some video/pictures of him for his upcoming movie Undiclosed-A Stubs production. I am really stoked to see the outcome of this video, it will be up for sale this fall, and I would deffinatly suggest purchasing it. Some gnarly riding has been filmed/thrown down. You will be amazed at what one person can do on a hardtail..We rode boneyard for another while, until Ian "axx" Nelson came and met up to hike boneyard in the crisp light with us. We rode for another bit, then went down to register and do a lap on the chairlift.

Before I knew it, the boneyard was packed full of people spectating and riding. It was weird, leaving the empty boneyard, then 10 minutes later it was full. Soon the comp started and people were throwing down. There was an 11 year old kid hitting the big step down to step-up, it was CRAZY. I think his name was Brin Anderson...leave a message at the bottom of the page if I am wrong please!

Now I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
