Mountain Biking comes to Woodward West

Tehachapi, CA —Woodward West will be hosting camps focusing on Mountain Biking next August, which will be an opportunity for campers, riders, and industry folks to come together, watch, and learn about the latest in mountain biking and what Woodward West brings to mountain biking.

“As Woodward West opens its doors to mountain biking, this will be an opportunity for mountain bikers and sponsors to come together and demonstrate our sport is at the level of BMX and skateboarding,” Professional Mountain Bike rider Shaums March said. “The Mountain Biking weeks will be a great opportunity to see how far Mountain Biking has come, and Woodward West training facilities is open to our free-ride lifestyle. In addition, there’s definitely a need for mountain biking training camps, and Woodward West is a good place to learn in a hands-on safe environment.”

For March, Woodward West’s solid foundation in the action sports industry will assist in bringing Mountain Biking to the heights the sport deserves and be invited back to the X Games. From 1997 to 2001, March designed mountain biking courses for the ESPN X Games.

“Mountain biking is evolving and its popularity is increasing in the action sports industry. Woodward, as always, wants to be on the cutting edge of action sports,” Woodward West Camp Director Debbie Williams said. “The Woodward West Mountain Biking weeks will be an opportunity for mountain bikers to experience Woodward West, learn from pros and one another, and promote and support the sport.”

According to Professional Mountain Bike Rider Jim “Hacksaw” Severt, having mountain biking at Woodward West is an opportunity for the best and most talented mountain bike riders in the world come together and demonstrate to the action sports industry and manufacturers what’s going on in mountain biking up close and personal.

“The Woodward West Mountain Biking Weeks will be our opportunity to help in product development and improving the industry because manufacturers designing parts and products can see how skate parks, dirt jumps, BMX facilities, and street riding has evolved in action sports to include mountain biking,” Severt said. “Woodward West is the best place for this to happen because every kid’s dream is to go to Woodward West and ride. Woodward West is a selling point in itself for action sports. We want to show kids interested in mountain biking that there’s a place for them at Woodward West and show that mountain biking isn’t limited to ramps, racing, and dirt jumps.”

The Woodward West Mountain Biking Weeks will be August 7 to 13 and August 14 to 20, 2005. The latter week will be open to adults 18 and over. For more information, call Woodward West at 661.822.7900 or visit the Woodward West Web site at woodwardwest.com.
