WHISTLER BLACKCOMB STEPS UP TO HELP ELIMIMATE BIKE THEFT
Affordable Bike Valet Now Available
(Watch out for Mountain Boards and Scooters too)

WHISTLER, BC, August 12 – Driven by concerns about mountain bike theft occurring, Whistler Blackcomb has introduced an affordable bike valet service for riders.

Located in the Excalibur Storage building, adjacent to the Fitzsimmons chair line up, Whistler Blackcomb has opened a weekend bike valet. According to the Whistler RCMP 19 bikes were reported missing or stolen in the month of July. “This number is shocking to say the least but certainly highlights the need for such a service - and we’re stepping up to meet this need,” says Matt Davies, Retail Rental Operations Manager at Whistler Blackcomb.

Since July 16, Whistler Blackcomb has offered a bike valet service on weekends. As demand for safe affordable storage increases, Whistler Blackcomb plans to offer the valet service seven days a week, potentially even offering overnight storage.

The price point for this service has been set very low in an attempt to encourage riders to use this service. A one-time usage fee is $2 while an all day pass is only $5. In addition, all day bag storage is offered for $3.

With over 200 km and 3,600 feet of lift-serviced gravity-fed, adrenaline-fueled descending trails, the Whistler Blackcomb Mountain Bike Park is the unequivocal leader of lift-accessed mountain bike parks in the world. The introduction of on site, affordable mountain bike storage proves that the best is just getting better.

Whistler Blackcomb Introduces New Ways to Experience the Magic Bike Park - Mountain Scooters and Mountain Boards offer alternate WAYS to get down the mountain

WHISTLER, BC, August 15 - Effective immediately, the Whistler Blackcomb Mountain Bike Park’s new beginner park, the Magic Bike Park, will offer riders the ability to experience the Park’s smooth flowing trails via two new forms of transportation: Mountain Scooters and Mountain Boards.

Mountain Scooters and Mountain are a developing new phenomenon and Whistler Blackcomb now welcomes them in the Magic Bike Park. Mountain Scooters combine BMX wheels, mountain bike shocks & brakes and an oversized skateboard platform. Mountain Boards are beefy skateboards that combine brakes with snowboard style bindings. Riders will be required to wear helmets and protective gear.

“With the opening of the new Magic Bike Park, we now have beginner trails that are perfectly suited for these activities,” says Jeremy Roche, Whistler Blackcomb Product Development Manager. “The Mountain Scooters have broad appeal and are a great way for families to experience the Magic Bike Park as part of their day in the Blackcomb Base Adventure Zone. Those who are looking for a more thrilling experience will identify with the Mountain Boards.”

Enthusiasts who own boards now have a place to play in Whistler. For those who don’t own the equipment but would like to try out a new way of getting down a mountain this summer, Whistler Blackcomb rents “Diggler” Mountain Scooters that are available at Daylodge Rentals at the base of Blackcomb Mountain. Rentals are under $15 per hour and include the cost of the Mountain Scooter, a helmet, gloves and damage insurance. For those looking to ride in the Magic Bike Park, armour is recommended and can be rented for an additional $10 per hour.

The Magic Bike Park is open daily from 10am to 5pm until Monday, September 5, 2005.
