Whistler is going Garbanzo

Another chair means a whole lot more vert to rip

Words by Jason Goller

The rumours are true - the Whistler Bike Park is only getting bigger and better for next year. Whistler's Dave Kelly and his crew have been busy creating the new additions to the park for 2004, including new trails that will be accessed by the Garbanzo Express Chair.

Garbanzo will be outfitted with Whistler's patented bike carriers and will add an additional 2,200' of vertical for a new total of 3,400' of gravity-fed ripping.

The steep terrain, double the lift capacity, and almost three times the amount of vertical will undoubtedly help fuel your bike park addictions.

You don't have to wait until the 2004 season to check out the new terrain, either.

If you're a 2003 Whistler Mountain Bike Park passholder, you can get a free, guided sneak preview of the Garbanzo area every Saturday and Sunday from September 20 to October 12 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily.

There are a few limitations, so listen up: tours are weather dependent; they're only for expert riders who are comfortable on black and double-black trails; a dual suspension bike, full-face helmet, and body armour are all mandatory; and groups must stay with the guide at all times. Call Whistler/Blackcomb at 1.800.766.0449 to reserve your spot.
