This week Sterling Lorence turned his gaze to each and every image submitted to Money Shot. Like the other shooters he downloads them from the site and then views them without any other info - making the playing field as level as possible. Scroll down to read Sterling's take on Photoshop abuse. And don't go too far before checking out the slideshows on Sterl's site. You can even order prints of his best nugs from over the years and have them shipped to your door.
Every winner in March will receive a prize from Helly Hansen - and then the grand prize winner gets a prize from the next level - as well as a ticket to the finals.

The winner from Week Three takes home a sweet Rapide jacket
from Helly Hansen.

Ryder Kasprick shot by Jason Liang This is my number one shot for this week. There were many in the
running this week but few hold the drama like this one. |

I 'm a sucker for epic ride shots. This
image has a good feel to it. Loose enough composition to let us know
that it's big country with nice grasslands, big mountain passes nearby
and beauty blue bird day to get way out there. Good light is one of
the key factors in building the appeal too. The actions of the rider
in this shot are not going to blow us away so good to go loose and off
to the right side so we give him the page to ride through off to the
left. Keeping the foreground focus soft helps direct our eyes to the
sharp rider and the peaks and also creates contrast in the image. Have
you done a hammathon lately? |

Second place. Rider ~ Unknown. Photo ~ Rodrigo

| Great shop shot. Images like this reek
of soul, passion and commitment to our sport, and that glows in this
one for me. Black and white is a great choice, considering that shops
can be messy and distracting and colour here would have taken away
our attention. Contrast is built here with the shallow depth of field
and helps illiminate distraction to any of the other items around
the tech. The focus placement is perfect because it draws our eyes
to his eye and then to the task at hand with the dremmel tool and
the pedal. Nothing else need be in focus. I also like the composition
from top left to bottom right, and I also really like how just a little
bit of the tech's eye is visible. This shot would not be the same
if the glasses blocked his eye. Nice overhead lighting, as to be expected
in a shop, good blast off the cheek (again, contrast!) watch out shins! |

Third place. Tech ~ Gerald.

Nice use of trees for composition. Like
the forground blur of ferns, and also like the use of flash although
it's a bit hot compared to the ambient light. Trick is cool and this
shot would be higher ranked if the air was double the height and scraping
the ceiling of the shot... step it up grom! |

Has potential but not quite there yet... |

Also - one note from me the judge this week. there were several other stellar #1 images out there this week and I had to hit the gong on them because of excessive photoshop. Images are way over-saturated and way over sharped and way over zoomed in on and re-composed. yuck. GONG! Clean up your acts, and be way more respectable/honourable to real
light and how it works in your photography and the world of photography. |
Week four is now cranking. Click here to see the entries. This week's winner will receive a Packable Jacket from Helly Hansen.
