That all changed on Tuesday while shooting
for NSX 6 with Todd "Digger" Fiander. Digger has been building
some amazing stunts lately and has been having a hard time finding riders
up to the task. He finally managed to corner Wade, Thomas Vanderham and
Dave Watson to do his newest and sickest creation. The unnamed gap spans
a ravine on Mt. Fromme and is perhaps 45 feet from lip to lip. If a rider
was to come up short he or she would tumble into an unfriendly minefield
of boulders and logs some 20 feet below.
Wade, the veteran of the group, stepped up first. He cleared the gap
(his landing marks measured over 50 feet from the take-off) but landed
nose heavy, slammed into some roots at the side of the landing strip and
broke his femur on impact. There was no arterial damage or other complications
and the evacuation went smoothly.
