Sprockids "Coastriders" Jump/Stunt/Skills Building Session

Two days of hard work and fun pay off

Gibsons, B.C. - Norco Performance Bikes is proud to once again support Doug Detwiller and his Sprockids "Coastriders" Program. Norco Factory Team riders and Norco staff recently spent the weekend in Gibsons to help Sprockids move its 13-year-old program to the next level. Today's young riders are drawn to the challenges and excitement of riding elevated stunts and the relatively new sport, dirt jumping. If we are hoping to grow the sport we must recognize this fact and embrace it.

On the first day of the two-day event, Norco pro riders, Rich Prorok, Jay Hoots and Darryl Steane were joined by staff riders, Dave Devlin, Vanessa Cornish and Marc Arellano, and picked up shovels and

rakes to help close to 70 dedicated community members build a new jump and trials section within the Sprockids mountain bike park.

"It's unbelievable to see so many kids and their parents get together like this and accomplish so much in one day," says Jay Hoots. "We were totally inspired by the positive energy and work ethic shown by kids, moms and dads."

Much to everyone's amazement, the new jump and trials section was completed half a day ahead of schedule, which left lots of time for the kids and the Norco riders to test out the new kickers, hip jump and trials platform.

"We really appreciate how everyone came together," states Detwiller, Program Director. "We needed dirt and we got it, we needed lumber and the local mill came through. The Norco Crew was fantastic with the kids. They not only taught the right way to build, but also listened to their suggestions and worked with them to incorporate their ideas into the design of the park. We can't thank everyone enough."

On day two, 55 participants regrouped for a Norco "ride with the pros" day. Trials guru, Ryan Leech, freeride wonderkid, Ian Moult, Jay Hoots, Rich Prorok and Norco staff lead three groups of riders through a

network of trails in the Roberts Creek area of the Sunshine Coast. "It was totally rad," says Leech. "You just had to be there to get a sense of how excited the kids and parents were to have us there."

"Kudos go to Doug and the community," states Peter Stace-Smith, Norco PR/Marketing Manager. "They've been working at this for over 13 years and now their energy and determination has given them one of the premiere places in North America to ride and learn to improve both riding and life skills."
