Smith Optics
Calls Up Two Athletes for Factory Team Plucked from Summer Gravity Camp |
October 12, 2006 Ketchum, ID- Utilizing the professional eye and instruction of Summer Gravity Camps’ staff of legendary riders, including long time Smith athlete and camp founder, Andrew Shandro, Smith Optics has recruited two of the camp’s top 2006 athletes for a slot on its Smith Farm Freeride Team in 2007. Patrick Culpepper (Columbus, GA) and Daniel Toumine (Edmonton, AB) stood out among the 200+ campers who spent a week at Whistler this summer.

Culpepper is so stoked he is clapping....behind his back.
“The carrot was out on the mountain all season, offering a spot on the Smith team to the camper who proved he had what it takes to make our team. Not surprisingly, there was more than one rider the guys deemed worthy so we ended up just bringing both Patrick and Daniel on with us. We’re stoked to have both of them,” said Smith Bike Promotions Manager, Greg Randolph.
The new Smith team members will get set up with a complete kit of Smith Optics eyewear, replacement accessories, and softgoods…just like the pros.

Toumine cleans tables when he isn’t cooking with gas.
“Daniel and Patrick have been coming to the summer gravity camps for the past few years. Myself and all of the camp coaches have been really impressed with there level of riding and commitment to the sport. It’s great to see Smith step it up and support the next generation of young rippers,” commented camp papa Andrew Shandro.
Both Toumine and Culpepper were a bit giddy on the phone when contacted about
their selection. “Byaaaaaaaaa!” was about all Culpepper could muster,
which indeed about says it all. Toumine was a tad more articulate, shouting
into the phone, "I'm really excited to be riding for Smith next season,
it's going to be an awesome experience!"
Welcome to the team, boys!
