| Norco Performance Bikes Awarded Bike of The Year by U.S. Magazine |
Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada Norco's Supercross bike, the One25 wins U.S. based Mountain Biking
Magazine's Dirt Jump 2003 Bike of The Year award.
Great news for the Canadian bike industry and our company when you imagine
all the big American bike companies who could have been chosen and who
have been favourites in the past. "This is definitely a David vs.
Goliath story" states Bike Division Manager, Dave Overgaard.
Norco Performance
Bikes has never subscribed to the idea that to achieve great success
you have to pander to the lowest common denominator. While others have
focused on things like branding and market share, "the folks at Norco
have always strived to come up with the perfect ride no matter what,"
says Peter Stace-Smith, Norco"s PR/Marketing Manager. Its
North Shore proven VPS series of bikes has already garnered critical
acclaim and industry recognition from Canadian, U.S. and International
media and consumers.
Norco's Supercross
line, a mix of mountain bikes and BMX, was introduced with the 2001 series
of bikes to fill a niche that had made itself apparent on the underground
bicycle scene. The bikes were immediate cult favourites, and were in such
high demand, virtually none of them made it out of the country. In 2001
and 2002 while other bike companies were trying to figure out if there
was even a viable market there, Norco expanded its line to 4 models. The
4-Hun and 4-by-4 are introduced and the 250 moves to a full 4130 Cromo
frame. The One-25 is still the sleeper of the bunch, though.
For 2003
Norco's Supercross line is once again expanded to 6 models with
the addition of a Cromo 1-Hun and Easton Rad 5-Hun. The 4-Hun and Two-50
join the 1-Hun as single-speed specialists. All Supercross hardtails are
24/26-inch wheel compatible and have BMX BB's and cranks and horizontal
dropouts. The 4-by-4 model is the only full suspension and is a dirt jumper
or dual-slalom-specific.
After three to four years
of bike alchemy, Norco's
Supercross series of bikes has combined the perfect elements of part mountain
bike, a touch of BMX and a dash of Motocross. These bikes are recognized
as industry leaders in a very specific market.
Everyone at Norco
is elated with the news because Mountain Biking's award for this
category further proves what we already know: Norco Performance Bikes can take the punishment of suicide no-handers, Can-cans and Superman Seat
Grabs - favourite Canadian past-times for many hard core riders.
