Kootenay Mountain Culture magazine releases Summer ’05 issue

June 6/2005 - Nelson, B.C. — Focusing on the celebration of world-wide mountain culture and regional adventure tourism, Kootenay Mountain Culture magazine (KMC) has just released its summer ‘05 issue.

Available by subscription and at outdoor retailers from Calgary to Whistler, KMC’s latest release delves into a diverse collection of chronicles, characters and destinations from Golden to Ymir to Argentina.

This issue’s in-depth feature, The Evolution of the Revolution, documents the extraordinary growth of B.C.’s mountain bike industry, along with its legends, lore and economic realities.

Regional biologist and wildlife photographer Jacob Dulisse takes an up-close and personal look at a creepy collection of Kootenay creatures you’ve never heard of.

Castlegar writer Geoff Mueller interviews The Black Russian —globe-trotting skateboard pro and Kootenay kid Josh Evin.

Editor Mitchell Scott pays homage to classic Canadian follicular couture in his Ode to The Mullet.

And if that’s not hair-raising enough… there’s way more, including Golden climber Jon Walsh’s first-hand account of an all-Canadian new route on Argentina’s famed peak Cerro Fitz Roy, a play-by-play on the meteoric career path of Ymir band BC/DC and a visit to some of the Arrow Lakes and Slocan Valley’s park-and-huck kayaking gems with Nelson writer/photographer Steve Ogle.

And as always, KMC’s photo gallery offers up an electrifying collection of images from some of B.C.’s best action adventure and outdoor photographers.

Kootenay Mountain Culture’s summer ’05 issue, distributed throughout B.C, southern Alberta and by subscription internationally, marks the second edition produced and compiled with KMC’s new Nelson-based editorial team and an initial start-up partnership from the Canadian Magazine Fund (CMF).

The editorial team includes five nationally and internationally recognized Nelson names in photography, journalism and design—Publisher and Photo Editor Peter Moynes, Editor Mitchell Scott, Senior Editor Darren Davidson and the art direction/design team of Chris Rowat and Daiva Villa.

What is mountain culture? It is a growing global sub-culture found in mountainous regions around the world famous for geographical grandeur and active, adventurous, eclectic lifestyles.

KMC is dedicated to the celebration, promotion and documentation of this phenomenon as it exists throughout the Kootenay region of southeast British Columbia, part of a province fast becoming the 21st century’s premier outdoor destination.
