The Flow Show Invitational Classic 2007
at the Outdoor Adventure Show BC Place February 17,18
Dan Cowan

As you may have heard, this year’s Bike Expo at BC Place will have a new look and feel. One of the big changes this year will be the first ever Flow Show Invitational Classic. Here’s the story.

I was very excited to be asked to do the Flow Show at the Bike Expo this year. However, I really liked the rider participation of the previous years with the North Shore Indoor Race, the Dirt Jumping, Demo Course, and last years street course. The Flow Show since it’s inception in 1998 has been about North Shore riding. But as we all know, North Shore riding has evolved …and so has the Flow Show. Last year at the CNE in Toronto we had trials riding, jumpers, and even a guy named Taylor Hill who does Flat land mountain biking with a flip. The Flow Show is always looking for up and coming talent. Riders who like to perform for others and who have the desire to show the World what mountain biking is all about. So with all this in mind, and more of course, I decided it is a good time to have a little friendly competition with the Flow Show apparatus.

Here’s how it will work:
Over the next month Flowriders Productions Inc. will be accepting resumes and interviewing riders who think they have what it takes. What does it take? What kind of riders are we looking for? Ultimately we are looking for well-rounded riders - riders who can ride a variety of styles. However, if you are exceptionally good at jumping but shy away from elevated skinnies, or perhaps you are a balance maestro but have only a trick or two on the jump, it doesn’t matter. The main thing to remember is that the Flow Show is a “show”. It’s all about entertainment.

We will be accepting the top 16 riders to perform for the Flow Show Invitational Classic. The Saturday will have 8 shows. Each show will have four of the contestants plus a few of the regular team riders. Each contestant will ride in two shows and will be given a score out of ten from panel of judges. The top eight of the Saturday will go on to ride Sunday and will have another two shows each to show off their talents. The winner(s) will be announced at the end of the Sunday.

What do you get if you make the top 16? Swag, an opportunity to expose yourself to most of the local industry people, a chance to get into the next North Shore Extreme video (and other media of course), and best of all, the possibility of being paid to ride your bike and see the World with the Flow Show.

Interviews will take place on the mountains of the North Shore or on the super buff singletrack of Bowen Island. Email me at danger@flowriders.com and we can set-up a time and place.
