Carey
Bokser |
To our friends, family and business partners:
On February 25th 2006, while skiing in the backcountry near Nelson B.C., Carey
Bokser, senior production manager and team icon of Freeride Entertainment, fell
to his death while attempting an extremely challenging ski descent.
The day started off as any Saturday in Nelson might- with a strong Oso Negro
coffee and a day of touring at the ski hill. Carey and Eric Crosland, Freeride’s
newest staff member, attempted to drop in to the face of Hummer Peak; a short,
but very exposed, 55 degree face. Carey dropped in first, ski cut the line and
felt confident. On his next turn, he caught the edge of his ski and quickly
fell out of sight down the steep face through the rocks and over the cliffs
below. Eric immediately skied for help while some other skiers close by tended
to Carey. Local ski patrol and Search and Rescue were on the accident scene
as fast as they could possibly be. To put everybody’s mind at rest and
ease, Carey did not suffer after the fall.
Carey was the true center of the Freeride Universe and will be missed by all:
none more then his beautiful wife, Anne, and his 10 month-old baby girl, Noa.

This has certainly changed a lot of things at our company and
in the action sports community. These are difficult times and we hope that everybody
can stick with us in the coming weeks while we get on top of things and adjust
to life without Carey. We will do our absolute best to live up to all of our
obligations and previously scheduled productions. It is going to be difficult,
but by supporting each other we will persevere. The community of Nelson and
the employees at Freeride are a tight knit group and as a family, we have dealt
with tragedy before.
Service arrangements have been made for Carey and a trust fund will be set up
for Anne and Noa at the CIBC bank in Nelson in the days to come. Until then,
donations can be mailed to: CIBC c/o Anne and Noa Bokser, 459 Baker St., Nelson
B.C., Canada V1L-4H7
We will hold a “Remember Carey” gathering at the Freeride office
at: 640 Baker St., Nelson B.C. on March 11, 2006 at 2:00 pm. All friends from
near and far, as well as extended business family and anyone else who has been
touched by Carey in anyway are invited. Please join us to meet his family and
visit the home he loved.
We encourage all of you who knew Carey to continue to live life to the fullest
and enjoy every minute of it. Follow his good example and don’t get caught
up in the material and treat your friends and family with love and respect,
as he did.
Sincere regards and be safe out there………We love you all.
