MOUNTAIN BIKERS RECEIVE FUNDING FROM THE PROVINCE OF BRITISH COLUMBIA FOR TRAIL-WORK ON THE BADEN POWELL TRAIL.

NSMBA News Release

North Vancouver, British Columbia, September 8 , 2005 - The North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA) has received funding from the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch ("Gaming Branch") of the Province of British Columbia.

These funds will be used by the NSMBA to work on the Baden Powell trail in the immediate vicinity of its junction with Mountain Highway in North Vancouver. The Baden-Powell trail has significance as a key connector linking parks and recreation areas from Horseshoe Bay to Deep Cove. Originally built by the Boy Scouts of Canada, and opened formally in 1971, the Baden Powell trail is a key multi-use trail used by trail-runners, hikers, bikers and other user groups on lands administered by the District of North Vancouver ("DNV").

This grant builds on a tradition of cooperation between the NSMBA and different government jurisdictions in carrying out the NSMBA's goals of environmental remediation and trail maintenance.

Sharon Bader of the NSMBA stated that: "A trail crew will be contracted to address certain "hot spots" on the Baden-Powell trail that require more labour and expertise than can be provided by our volunteers at regularly scheduled NSMBA trail days. We are very excited about this opportunity to maintain the trail for all users".

According to Susan Rogers, Section Manager of Parks Planning, of the DNV: "The Baden Powell is a showcase trail accessed by users from all over the Lower Mainland. We are pleased to see that the NSMBA is able to marshall further resources to maintain this trail and delighted to keep working with the NSMBA in this effort."
