2nd Annual Cowan Backyard Jam set for October 3rd

KONAWORLD – Kona Clump team member and dirt jump specialist John Cowan is inviting the world’s 12 best dirt jumpers back to his SoCal backyard to session his famous super-sized trails for a 2 hour dirt jump marathon at the second annual Cowan Backyard Jam dirt jump contest on October 3rd, 2004 in San Marcos, California.

Pro riders will compete for a $4500 USD prize purse, paid to the top 6 riders.   Each rider’s best two runs will be videotaped and judged for overall style and “Best Trick” recognition, and the top six winners will be announced at the Las Vegas premiere of Freeride Entertainment’s “Disorderly Conduct” in the Palms on October 7th, 2004.

“Jump Engineer” Cowan has developed several crazy new lines, including more technical transfers, a toilet bowl berm jump and a quarter-pipe, that have been added to his home track since last year’s Backyard Jam.

Last year’s Backyard Jam became the sport’s main stage for unveiling the newest dirt jump skills. Cowan’s “No foot back flip” and Timo Pritzel’s “Big Air Transfer” tied for “Best Trick” recognition during the contest. The new elements amazed those in attendance at the exponential increase in the degree of difficulty of the tricks and the creativity of the riders.

You can expect much of the same this year.

Cowan’s Backyard Jam is sponsored by the Kona Bicycle Company, Marzocchi, Salomon, and Decline Mag For more information and media credentials, please contact John Cowan, johncowan@konaworld.com, or Russ Carty, russ@konaworld.com.
