I'm starting to enjoy this but it's not getting any easier. The superior shot quality this week has me flummoxed. As I write this I still haven't decided. I have been looking at the images all week and this afternoon I narrowed them down to about 30. Then I went for a ride and used those endorphins to whittle it down further - to nine images. By the time you see this I will have made my choices but right now I'm just formatting this on faith, hoping it'll all come together. Maybe a shot of tequila will help?
If you are the winner please send me an email with your contact info and shirt size and we'll get your prizes in the mail.
Week Seven is just finished up but I haven't confirmed a judge yet. With Sea Otter rolling out this is a busy weekend but I'll railroad a worthy arbiter shortly.

Okay I did it. I chose a lifestyle shot as my favourite of the week. More of a portrait I guess. I just couldn't stop looking at this shot - and not only because Kona-sponsored Finnish rider Joonas Vinnari is so dreamy. The sky reflected off the water and the absence of any horizon makes it appear that boat and rider have found the edge of the world. The mist on the water (Bay? Lake?) and the crispness of the shot conspire to make the backdrop look false. Other worldly and beautiful. Photo~Janne Laitio. Rider~Joonas Vinnari. Click to see it in full glory.
Here are a few of the others I appreciated this week.

I'm generally more into big mountain shots but this one held my attention. The depth of field allows the first lip to be in focus while the rider, much further from the lens, is crisp as well. The top of shot framing of the rider emphasizes his boost. I like the sepia tone in this case as well. No cookie for you but I like your shot. Photo~ Eric Winkler. Rider ~ Jeremy Combs. This looks like Garbanzo on Whistler to me - maybe Original Sin? Good roost and nice light coming in to show it off. Looks like fun. Photo~ Nicolas Teichrob. Rider~Joseph Hopkins. Click to see the larger, version.

This was last week's winner but I liked it from this angle as well - particularly the larger version in the gallery. It would be cool to see this a little more clicked - as the kids say. I would never dream of hitting a hip that big and scary - I'm not saying I'd nail it - but seeing the bike a little flatter would add a little saccharine to an already sweet shot. The Week Seven Gallery will be closed Thursday at midnight. After that we enter our final week of entries and then it'll be time for some tough decisions. We'll choose two more finalists out of the four April winners and then one wildcard spot for the finals. Each finalist will be asked to submit five shots to the finals gallery and based on the strength of those shots we'll choose the winner of our Kokanee Crankworx prize.
Feel free to let me have it for choosing a non-riding shot. I think I would do the same. But while you are shooting me down man up (or woman up) and choose your top three from Week Six and share them with us.
