Q & A:

BC based ripper, racer, freerider Jordie Lunn

Interview by NSMB’s Ian Ward, Whistler, BC

Words & Photos by Ian Ward

We’re on location west of Whistler’s Garbanzo Chair during shooting of Jordie’s segment in the upcoming freeride epic “The Collective” (see exclusive sneak preview coming soon in NSMB.com).

This ain’t Hollywood, Jordy builds before he rides.

IW: Jordie, How did you get hooked up with Darce and Jamie (Darcy Wittenburg & Jamie Houssain, known for their work on the Kranked series and other leading action sport films) & why Whistler?

JL: I’ve known Darcy since Ride to The Hills down in Utah. Darcy was a cinematographer on that one, and this was a great opportunity to work with him again. Darcy and his partner Jamie, who lives here in Whistler, scouted out some great locations, especially up on the hill in the vicinity of the new section of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. Jamie knows the area so well and it’s a great chance for these guys to shoot a segment in his (Jamie’s) backyard.

IW: What type of footage are you guys shootin’ here?

JL: We’re after some fast, bermy stuff, with some hits – really capturing the flow. We’ve got some mountain-style dirt jumps, real unique style to ‘em.

IW: What’s in your bag o’ tricks on the dj’s?

JL: Today…some can-can’s, nothing’s, cross-ups, superman seat grabs, & I’ve been working on spinning in my backyard.

Would you do this to put dinner on the table?

IW: Your backyard? I hear that you have a sweet set-up at home…

JL: Yeah, I have six dirt jumps, some smaller kickers, a skate ramp, and the newest addition, a foam pit that we just built last month.

IW: What’s up next for you?

JL: The John Cowan Comp (interviewer note: Oct. 9th in San Diego), then of course, there’s Red Bull Rampage coming up.

IW: What can we expect to see from the ‘B1 Bomber’?

JL: Ah, we’ll see….maybe trick some hucks, try some stuff I’ve been working on.

IW: Choice: Racing or Dirt Jumping?

JL: I’m sticking with both, doing some World Cups next season, jumping and training between times. Hopefully squeeze some comp’s in when at home – maybe live the dream and win Hammerfest!.

IW: Who/What do you credit for your success in this biz?

JL: My parents for their support, my bro for riding and just keepin’ it real, and just keepin’ it fun you know?

Building suspense for an epic film...

IW: Feelings about Whistler?

JL: Crazy. Biggest, developed park out there, hopefully lots of people follow in their footsteps and keep pushing this side of the industry.

IW: Props to…?

JL: B1 Bikes (available through Orange Sports) and Manitou forks.
