Ask
Wade Simmons?
Get the word from the Godfather of freeride
|
A couple of years ago I was at the top of the Fitz chair at Whistler and Wade
Simmons had just ridden by. When he was out of earshot I overheard a woman
say to her riding companions "I wonder if Wade knows I want to have his children."
I remember thinking - 'so that's what it's like to be Wade.' He's a rare
breed - the pro athlete whose fans appreciate more after meeting him personally.
I don't want his head to swell too much but let's just say that Wade Simmons is
a one of a kind.
Chimonez - as his friends call him - has been in this game for a long time.
He was a sponsored freerider before anyone knew what a freerider was and he
can still throw down when he needs to. Wade no longer needs to enter events
like the Crankworx Slopestyle (and some of his friends have been trying to talk
him out of entering Slopestyles) but he tossed his hat in this year and was
the only elder statesman to make the big show. He still has the fire and
his love of mountain biking seems undiminished by his years as a pro.
It's the off-season now and Wade's schedule is opening up a little so we're
going to help him stay busy. nsmb is going to give you the opportunity
to fire Wade questions via email. We're hoping to post responses, to the
questions of his choice, weekly - but we'll see if that's realistic. Right
now Wade's returning from a shoot in Oregon with a bunch of his Oakley teammates
including Cedric Gracia, Brian Lopes, Darcy Turenne and mountain biking's
answer to Anna Kournikova - Niki
Gudex. Once he's back he'll check his nsmb email account and we'll
get things rolling.

Wade's a man with diverse interests and he's keen to talk about more than just
mountain biking. Feel free to ask his opinion on the meaning of life,
about other sports like surfing or snowboarding or how he can manage his diabetes
when his schedule gets crazy. No need to hold back - you'll be surprised by
the depth of Wade's wisdom.
Or maybe just ask him if you can have his children. It's all up to you.
Wade won't be able to respond personally to your emails but you can bet he'll
have a look at all of them.
Please include your name, age, where you live and any other relevant
info if you would like to Wade to answer your question.
Wade will also choose a winning question from each set and the sender will
receive a prize from one of his sponsors - Rocky
Mountain Bicycles, Shimano,
Oakley, Dakine,
Alpine Stars, Bell
Helmets and Marzocchi.
