The Athertons make Sports History

Hat Trick and Place in the History Books for the Athertons!

Tens of thousands of viewers tuned into Freecaster LIVE last weekend to watch the UK's Atherton family write mountain bike World Cup history.  Siblings Dan, Rachel and Gee Atherton took home gold in the men's 4X, women's downhill and men's downhill respectively at Round 2 in Vallnord, Andorra.

Dan led the charge on Saturday evening with a huge quad transfer in the 4X finals that secured him the win. When Rachel stormed home over 8 seconds ahead of Sabrina Jonnier (FRA) in the women's downhill, the pressure was on Gee to complete the hat trick for the family in the men's downhill.  "He better not let us down or we won't be impressed.", joked Rachel before Gee's race. When he came in 0.3 seconds ahead of Sam Hill (AUS) the whole place went wild. Gee said of the historic triple "My brother got got it last night and then Rachel got it. We just sat around the pits thinking 'what if, what if?' I was just like 'don't talk about it, it's too much pressure. Then it came around - I'm so happy."

One family winning all three gravity disciplines at a single Mountain Bike World Cup round is unimaginable, but now the Athertons have done it... they show no signs of resting on their laurels.  With all three riders on top of their game this season, the question on everyone's mind is "can they do it again?".  Tune into nsmb.com again this weekend to find out!
