I’ve been wearing the same brand of helmet since some of you were in diapers. As you know, one has to try on many helmet brands to find just the right fit. I’ve tried on other lids over the years, but I always revert back to the same old company! I was dubious to try a new company. To my surprise the Fox number fit well. It slipped on smooth and easy without ripping my ears off. The Rampage felt secure and snug. The fact the Rampage hails from Fox moto-central instilled a sense of instant trust that my head would be protected. It’s obvious the Rampage is of a moto family. The styling closely resembles Fox’s big brother, the high-end V3 moto helmet.

I found the eye hole (super tech words) to be unobtrusive and ample. The visor slides up high enough to enable views of the treetops regardless of your angle of descent. The slim design of the helmet is both a plus and slight minus. The minus side - and only a slight minus - was due to the narrow nature of the Rampage. I found slight pressure on my cheeks from the cheek pads when first putting on the helmet. Once riding, the pads adjusted themselves and weren't overly noticeable again. On the plus side the nice open eye hole leaves a crisp, clear unobstructed field of view from side to side!

Regardless of how much I stank up the thing with my sweat… the helmet stayed in place. Helmets I’ve worn in the past would get packed out quickly and slip around when sweaty. I had the occasion to ride in a variety of temperatures with the nastiest being +38c. Of course I found the Rampage hot. All full-face helmets are hot on a +38c day – but the Rampage did a nice job in terms of airflow and stability. Once I’d filled up the Rampage with sweat and finished my ride I pulled out the chin pads and the liner and hosed them down. Simple. Ready for the next ride.

The finishing of the helmet is durable and well constructed. It stood up to a season of rides with little signs of wear other than the matte finish showing smudges easier than a gloss paint job would. The stitching and fabric on the liner also held up to numerous removals and washes without much complaint.

I liked the Rampage. I liked the clean design, the abundant visibility, the ease in cleaning, and the ample venting. Unless you’re saving all your coins for a lighter carbon unit… I would recommend this helmet.
