Specialized North Shore Ripper Super D! |
I'm just going to talk about the route and then I'll turn it over to the dept. of information to get you the details you need. Last year's Super D hurt some. Because it was long and because there was one decent climb in the middle (Down Dale's until where it intersects with Upper Dale's - note I did not name these trails - where you'll hang a left and pedal up to Cabin to Mushroom and across to hit Corkscrew). We didn't want to change things dramatically this year but the course needed a tweak. It's a Ripper tradition to mess with a good thing.

That's the spirit. These guys had the essence of the Ripper series nailed down. They didn't call themselves the Brokeback Mountain bikers (they didn't even see it coming) but everyone else did. Photos ~ David Ferguson
But we're getting ahead of ourselves. You will (and by you I mean
you and one friend or three friends this is a team event) stage in the
CBC parking lot and then get called down to the entrance of CBC a few
minutes before your start time. This is a time trial so James will
send folks off at one minute intervals - I would imagine. You'll
charge up the rise into CBC and then the game will be
on. You'll ride CBC opting for whichever route you'd like.
There are no time bonuses for riding the stunts but there is undying respect.
After CBC you'll roll down pinch flat alley to TNT.
Drop in and prepare to do battle with roots and twisty little ups and
even a few rather schnarby downhill sections. When you hit Cabin
Trail you will follow that to the left. Until this point
the route is identical to last year.
Our friend Jen 'Wrong Way' Sawrenko took a right last year down Dirty
Diapers instead of following Cabin Trail to Dale's. In
honour of our friend Jen, James decided the route should follow her this
year. One great reason is because it's extremely entertaining.
The other reason is that Dirty Diapers hits Ned's Atomic Dustbin
just after the creek crossing. From there you'll pedal up Ned's
(yes - we are going to close it for the duration of the event)
and then up Old Mushroom to Corkscrew.
You'll be giddy by the time you reach Corkscrew - or suffering some rather
serious oxygen debt. From there things get tricky. We haven't
decided whether we are going to add Salvation to the
course. We haven't yet consulted all the interested parties and
we are too far out for the five-day forecast. Consider it a possibility
- but it will mostly follow the ground route beside the stunts if we toss
it in. Please let us know what you think about this on the bulletin
boards as well.

Are we done yet? Or is there time for another? The Whores rush for the finish. Photo ~ David Ferguson
So after either Corkscrew to Salvation or Corkscrew to Incline you'll cross the Powerlines and duck into the recently renovated and very buff Pingu. From Pingu it's up the Baden until Team Pangor followed by Slash (I always thought that was part of Pangor) and then left on Bridal Path for the final lung burner. That my friends is a Super D North Shore style.
To learn the route either pick up a North Shore Trail Guide Map of Seymour (which is very well done) from a North Shore Bike shop - or good ones in the surrounding area, or head over to the most excellent way to experience Shore Trails online - Gutsploder.com. Hit the little dots to open shots of trail features if you haven't seen trails in question. Unfortunately Gutsploder hasn't documented TNT or Cabin Trail or Dirty Diapers. That's all I'm saying. Go ride it. I'm looking for a map right now to post online - but it won't be as good as the Cove Productions map.

Below is the official Ripper Super D press release which includes all the relevant info. We hope.
