Outdoor Show 2005
Ripping Riders on wet dirt
DJ comp Photos along with Commentary by Chris Donahue
(below)

And the winner is...

We were pumped to be giving away a .243 frame.  To enter all you had to do was buy a BroCard - and a bunch of you did that.   Eric Fox's 4130 steel hardtails are the pick of the litter and Leanne Futa won herself one that looks just like this.  Email me Leanne and we'll arrange to get your frame to you.

Leanne Futa won this frame from .243 Racing.

While we're on the topic of the BroCard, those of you who didn't get to the show will be able to order the card online soon (and we'll pay the shipping for now) or pick one up at select retailers like John Henry Bikes.

Now I'll turn the mic over to Chris Donahue to give you his play by play on the dirt jumping.

The BroCard for 2005.

One of the big disappointments of the weekend was the top category of the indoor North Shore.  There weren't enough entrants to run it.  We had a team all ready for the relay - which is usually the most exciting event of the weekend - but there were no challengers. Next year a street course might be in order. The amateur contest was exciting to be sure. Photo ~ Bryce Borlick

Denny's Big Air Jam Session Result

We were very unfortunate to have been dealt a bad hand with the dirt that was delivered. Normally, the dirt is dug up and stored in a lot for at least a month before hand. The dirt we recieved basically was dug out of the ground in North Vancouver, and brought down to BC Place. It was EXTREMELY Wet!! And it did not dry out in time for the Contest. So, our least best option had to be taken into action, pounding spikes into the dirt and creating wood transitions was our only hope.

Thankfully the crew of guys I had on hand to deal with the task quickly came together and made it happen as best as we could with the supplies we had. We ended up taking the first jump of the 6 pack completely out of the equation, and ended up with a ghetto, but interestingly ride-able 4 pack.

Chris Duncan loves to chat with the masses.  Please don't congratulate Chris and Hannah Steffens.  They have parted amicably but they endured all the good wishes with a smile. Photo ~ Bryce Borlick

Chris Duncan came out to play along with Cam McCaul, Hannah Steffens, and the Watts bros from Santa Cruz California. Duncan was a HUGE player in making the jumps ride-able in such a short time! Along with Nick and Ryan Meyer who ALWAYS Step up to the plate when something needs to be done. You guys RULE. Thank you Chris Duncan you are a classy dude, and it was a pleasure to hang with you bro.

Here are the results:

2nd - Neil Meier
3rd - Ryder Kasperick
4th - Ryan Newman
5th - Sam Jepson

Highlights of the comp was Greggs Huge Back Flips, Neil Meiers run which was a Barspin to a 360-Xup, Joe Perrizo showing up and doing a HUGE Backflip to body slam on the flat bottom before even testing out the jump!! This kid is NUTZ. Lots of Tailwhips were getting thrown down, along with 360 variations.

Cam McCaul always seems to squeeze more fun out of the day than anyone else.  Here he is nailing a tailwhip. Photo ~ Greg Descantes

One of the coolest things about the jumps was the number of people I saw riding them on Sunday. Almost everyone learned 2 new tricks, switch 360's, barspins... tailwhips, people were trying 360's for the first time. It was a huge confidence builder, and even though the jumps were ghetto, the riders left with more tricks up there sleeves, and more confidence to take to the trails next time.

Huge Thanks to Denny's for all the support, Darren Butler of Endless Biking for the PA System and being an incredible MC all weekend long. Jay Hootz for taking care of the rider format during the comp, and being the lookout post for when people had crashes and making sure other riders didn't land on them... people were training the 4 pack like it was the last day on earth... it was complete Chaos. But made for a good show.

I think next years plans will start right now, and perhaps a wooden rhythm section would be best to avoid any future problems.
Great Job to all the riders. Thanks for comin out.
