Re: lower turnout to trail days, I don't think it's a "soft hands city boy"
thing. It seems more like Bystander Effect to me
(<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect>). The more people are around,
the more we think someone else will do something about it. I'd imagine that in
smaller communities there is more sense of ownership and more individual
agency to create change.
