#!markdown Ive been following this site for quite a while but I was content to read without contributing. As I read through the other editor pick's articles I kept thinking why has no one mentioned a trail dog.. After reading Omar's article about Red I felt compelled to break with my window-shopping nature, create an account and post a Hallelujah! I am certainly not condoning getting a dog as a weekend cyclists accessory but as far as must-have items go a dog is #1. I easily owe 75% of my few thousand kms of singletrack this season to my dog. To be honest, I never really rode much until I got him. I had always been more of the twisted-throttle enthusiast but society and better judgement look harshly on those who ride their motorcycles on the street with their dogs in hot pursuit. Since Radar, a rescue from mexico, didnt care much for socializing with other dogs we started going into the backcountry instead, however, it quickly became clear I couldnt keep up on foot. Hence my re-entry into the earth-friendly 2-wheeled world. I bought a hardtail and rain or shine, everyday, we were riding, cause he needed it…. Surprisingly though, after coughing up 3 lungs and 4 undergrad years of fast food, I found I needed (and loved!) it as well. Its now the off-season and with a record amount of snowfall the wheels have been replaced by snowshoes but we are still training as I am planning to try my hand at enduro racing (for fun) next year. And to think less than a year ago I didnt even know a 'tranny' from a 'tranny' from a 'tranny on a tranny'…
