Wade’s Excellent Adventure Saturday!

Things are starting to heat up on the slopes of Fromme! This Saturday, June 2, many of Fromme’s sweet single-tracks will see the wheels of participants in the 3rd annual Wade’s Excellent Adventure.

I hear the competition is heating up too, as local industry folks enter their “Corporate Teams” to make a bid to have their names immortalized on the prestigious “Fromme Cup”.  They can follow in the footsteps of team Cove Bike Shop and team Rocky Mountain Bicycles, the two previous champions.

On a more casual level, the citizen category is a fun way to challenge the trails and experience the “Adventure”. The start/finish area transforms into a mini MTB festival. We also have hordes of great swag, so chances are good you will be stoked out. The product is generously donated from some of my great sponsors such as: RaceFace, Shimano, Lezyne, Bell, Oakley, Rocky Mountain Bicycles, Planet Foods and MEC.

On-line registration is open until 12am this evening May 31, so don’t delay and get your team in! Please use THIS LINK now to register. There will be day-of registration as well, so if you are a last minute type, we will be happy to take more of your money! Well just kidding, we will not be charging a late fee to accommodate riders, but we will give you a frown.

Remember: all money raised at this event goes directly back into the NSMBA and the trails! Last year participants contributed $3500! So we want to get as many people riding as possible.

A brief history of “Wade’s Excellent Adventure” and the “Fromme Cup”:

Having worked in many bike shops in the Lower Mainland, and cutting my teeth riding the North Shore with many now, great friends, there has always been that friendly competition in the trails. The constant challenge the trails here provide sets a great stage for this competition. So, five years ago or so, I wanted to formalize a type of “bragging rights” for our industry. Kicking around a bunch of ideas it finally morphed into the “Fromme Cup” and Wade’s Excellent Adventure.

I envisioned active local MTB industry like bike shops, manufacturers, media and the-such, challenging each other on a shared passion: that being the trails on Mount Fromme. The prize would be something they could hold onto for a while, gloat about, and then challenge for again, similar to the great Stanley Cup. The momentum is building, and the “Fromme Cup” may even be as contested as the Stanley in time. 

And, in this competition, the real winners are the trails we ride. In essence, it’s a celebration of everything mountain bike here on the Shore, and a legacy that I hope lives on! Who will be the next Champions?
