Crankworx Photo Update
Tyler McCaul has some big shoes to fill with his big bro Cam out with a broken femur. He’s doing a pretty good job in this shot.
Greg Watts walked away with the first round of the big trick comp by riding out a flip double tailwhip. I haven’t quite mastered that yet.
The wind claimed many riders on Thursday and here Yannick Grannieri slides down the tranny as a dumped Casey Groves dumps a three right behind him.
Jack Fogelquist was another victim of the wind. Ouch.
Watts and the Claw each pocketed 3G for their tricks. Berrecloth nailed a switch look back three to end the comp and take round two. We thought we might see him pull that out last year but didn’t. He’s got it dialled now.
Andreu Lacondeguy is a crowd favourite because of his larger than life personality and his rowdy riding. Unfortunately this year we won’t see much of him. He was nowhere to be found when the qualifier began (he needed to qualify because of his FMB standings for the year this far) and handlers scrambled to locate him. He seemed unaware that he needed to qualify and then when he arrived he decided not to ride. There were rumblings that he (along with what seems to be a majority of the riders) didn’t like the course. So I guess he’ll be spectating this evening.
Nobody seemed to know who finished where in the Slopestyle Quali. Wyper thought he was 12th and Kelly McGarry was apparently told he won. These are the official(?) results from the Crankworx site. Casey Groves has been bumped up which leaves Justin Wyper on deck for us. Hopefully Wyper will be able to show some of what he’s been working on.
As of this morning this is the start list for this evening’s Monster Slopestyle. I’m not sure how they got to the number 17 but I’m sure they have some kind of advanced algorithm that says this is the best number. If any of the riders above can’t ride Wyper should be in.
We were lucky enough to have Greg H-Ball Herbold leading our foursome at SRAM’s Whiffle Golf tourney. HB lead us through the intricacies of the game and hauled a big back pack of beer as well. This was a Crankworx highlight for me without a doubt. Photo ~ Cam McRae
