That’s right, I’m talking about some new rubber for 09, and it isn’t the prophylactic variety either. Yes sir, I am super stoked to announce that Maxxis is an official team sponsor for 2009. As you can imagine, being sponsored by such an innovative industry leader such as Maxxis Tires, I was faced with a tremendous decision to make: what tires do I ride for this season?

I know what you are thinking; this seems like a very easy and straight forward question doesn’t it?  Well trust me, when faced with so many options of high performance tires, this decision was anything but easy!

My rubber for 2009. The Minion DHF 3C (26 x 2.50) on the left and the newest addition to Maxxis' Downhill line up, the Ardent 3C (26 x 2.40) on the right. The 3C Triple Compound Technology means that the tires use three different Durometers of rubber, 70/42/40 respectively on each tire. Photo: Maxxis.com

The pressure was intense to say the least.  In my mind, the situation was comparable to being trapped on a deserted tropical island, and I could only choose two out of an infinite number of very sexy and yet, very functional and performance proven bikini models. What would you do, who would you pick...the lusty blonde and the brunette bomb shell, or the Swedish babe and the Brazilian hottie? As you can see, the combos and possibilities are endless!  After much reflection, and yes, much fantasizing (in truth, more about the tropical island scenario than about the tires), I decided to run the Minion DHF 3C (Triple Compound Technology) 2.5’s for my big bike, and the Ardent 3C (Triple Compound Technology) 2.4’s for my all-mountain ride.

There you have it, based on the daily shredding I do, those were the two bomb shells that I chose to be all mine on my not so real, but very imaginable tropical island. If you haven’t ridden Maxxis tires, I suggest that you do. These tires shred. All we need now is the snow to disappear and some dirt to ride them on!

Check out the Maxxis website for all the tech info you can handle, and see for yourself the monumental task I had to undertake.  No one said it would be easy.
