Lighter, Stiffer - Sound Familiar?

RockShox has just announced a new PIKE fork, as well as updates to the Monarch Plus shock and Reverb Stealth dropper post. All of these products are aimed at the long travel trail category, which is attempting to push the traditional all mountain bike – or at least its 30-pound-plus weight – into obsolescence.


The PIKE name was put on the shelf for a few years, but now it’s back and looks to be perfectly placed among the consistently faster and lighter trail bike category. With 35mm stanchions and weighing in at just over 4 pounds in all three wheel sizes, the new PIKE will give the Fox 34 a run for its money in the long travel trail market.

The Monarch Plus shock has been updated to allow better compression damping and more rebound range.

REVERB STEALTH

The Reverb Stealth sees a few smart updates. First, a new 150mm option, and 430mm length. Is 150mm enough travel? Or will we eventually see more? Second, a coupler system SRAM calls Connectamajig, which will allow for removal and reinstall a number of times before a bleed is needed. Definitely a good update for a post that needs to be routed through the frame.

    God I wish the bike industry would stop announcing next season’s products before the current season has really started…

    WTF are they thinking with the 15mm-only axle. Why don’t they just make a 110×20 dropout with a 15 adaptor if you want to run a shitty flexy XC axle? RS was one of the last holdouts for 20mm trail forks and now they’ve forfeited that advantage. If they’re all 15mm, then the 44 RC3 Ti is the one.

    and the connectamajig sounds like an afterthought when a designer needed to remove their seatpost and realized that they can’t with a stealth. Sram, buy a KS Lev and copy it.

      Sadly the 44 RC3 Ti is only 15mm as well… :(

      Agree that it is too bad about the 15mm axle on this fork. Although I like the Maxle system better than Fox QR15

      Wow Bryce. So bitter in so few words. What did 15mm ever do to you? how many 35mm stanchion / 15mm axle set ups have you ridden. Quite a few I guess given your depth of knowledge on the subject.
      The Connectamajig is a lot easier than a bleed. If RS wanted to copy the LEV they would be forced to cobble together a short life span, spindly aluminum connection with a push-on cover plate; which will be “fine as soon as I put of tape on it to keep it from falling off”.

    Good to see a 150mm reverb. Too bad it appears to only be available on the stealth version at this point. Those of us with long legs and non-stealth compatible frames will go buy a ks lev. Why sram, why?

    Honestly I don’t understand the trend towards internally routed cables and hoses. Didn’t we learn this lesson in the 90s?

    Now that’s a fork! I rode all last season on a Rockshox Revelation World Cup, 150mm Travel, 15mm QR, Tapered Carbon Steerer and Crown, and loved it. The Revelation series has 32mm stanchions, and to date (still running that fork) I’ve only experience a few moments of unwanted flex. All of these moments were my own error (nose casing gaps or just blowing it in general).

    Upgrade to 35mm stanchions…I’m in.
